OUR HISTORY

Mike Ferguson came to Middletown, Ohio, in 1976 to work for the Ohio State Patrol after leaving the United States Marine Corps. Already passionate about fitness, he opened the first Powerstation Gym in 1977 — a small garage where police officers could train for free.

A member later asked to bring a friend who wasn’t a police officer. Mike initially said no, but soon realized that offering memberships could fund new equipment. From that moment, the gym began to grow beyond its original garage, moving to a larger location in Trenton and then to Tytus Avenue in the 1980s.

Shortly after, an injury forced him into early retirement from the State Highway Patrol. Despite this challenge, his dedication to Powerstation and his passion for quality equipment never wavered.

The gym continued to expand, moving in the early 1990s to a much larger building on S. University Boulevard in Middletown. Mike added extra square footage specifically to house more equipment, creating a space where members could train seriously and see results.

In 2014, Powerstation moved to its current home on Dixie Highway in Franklin, Ohio. In 2019, ownership of Powerstation officially passed to Amy Sibcy. Amy had trained under Mike for years in bodybuilding and had been his friend for over two decades. She understood the standards he expected, the kind of atmosphere he believed in, and the importance of keeping the gym a place focused on hard work and respect.

More than 49 years after it first opened its doors, Powerstation remains what it has always been at its core. Thanks to the loyalty of longtime members and the dedication of those who walk through the doors today, the gym continues to be a place where people come to work hard and support one another.
